Pre-Exam Pancake Jam!

As finals time gets closer and closer, students look forward to one of the best meal in Evans dining hall all year… Pancake Jam!! Pancake Jam is a light-hearted tradition that takes place every year just before final exams. Faculty and staff don chef’s hats and aprons and cook breakfast for students! Around 9 PM students begin lining up outside the dining hall with their plates and silverware in hand, ready to devour the delicious breakfast our faculty and staff so kindly prepare for us. They serve all the traditional breakfast favorites. We have pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes, fruit and so much more!  There is music, food, and lots of singing and dancing. It’s a great time to relax before finals, and enjoy the company of your classmates before the holiday break.

Tree Trimming Party!

    In celebration of the holiday season, we have all Holidays being celebrated on campus! President Kiss has a special tradition where she invites international students to her home to decorate her Christmas Tree!  Happy Thanksgiving!

                As December approaches, students have just returned from a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving Break. We had three blissful days off of school to celebrate the holiday with our friends and families and reminisce on the things they are thankful for. Thanksgiving is a special holiday dedicated to spend with family to appreciate everyone and everything in your life. International Students take this time to disconnect from school and travel to other parts of the United States to meet friends or explore a new city. There are no tests, no papers, no labs, just time to relax! However students spent their break, I can imagine a lot of food was eaten! Thanksgiving dinner is known for certain foods such as all the side dishes, turkey, cranberry jam, and cornbread. It is a time for indulgence and officially begins the Holiday Season in the U.S. The week before the break, we even celebrated Thanksgiving dinner in our dining hall! They served turkey, mac and cheese, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, and all the traditional Thanksgiving dishes! Everyone ate so much food that we were stuffed! It was a great way to prepare for exciting Thanksgiving festivities! Anyone is welcomed to celebrate Thanksgiving as it is a time to be grateful and share with friends. International Fashion Show

Every year the Office of International Education and the International Student Association (ISA) puts on an extravagant fashion show during Diversifest. The Office of International Education (OIE) is a great resource on campus for international students and all students looking to study abroad. OIE works very closely with the International Student Association (ISA).  ISA is a student organization on campus that offers a space for international students and others alike to bond, share their culture, promote cultural diversity, and have awesome events like the fashion show! The fashion show showcases beautiful outfits from nations far and wide! The entire community is welcomed and encouraged to participate as models or by donating traditional clothing from their country or one they have visited. The purpose of the show is to highlight different cultures and countries represented in our community as well as to fund raise for a different charity every year. This year’s charity was “Global Growers”.

“The Global Growers Network creates new agricultural opportunities in Georgia for international farmers who were forced to flee their homelands as refugees, due to war, genocide and persecution. The Network uses a whole-systems approach to produce good food, train and place farmers, and create economic opportunity for local communities in the Decatur-Clarkston-Stone Mountain area.”

Diversifest

 Every fall we have a whole month dedicated to celebrating and embracing the diversity we have on our campus called Diversifest! This year we had tons of different programs and activities that were put on by our multicultural student organizations and our Center for Student Engagement. The Muslim Student had a Fast-A-Thon to help educate the Agnes community about the Islamic Faith by joining together to fast throughout the day from sun up till sun down.  We also celebrated Diwali (Festival of Lights) with a huge celebration with food from South Asia, dancing, and fantastic music. The International Student association put on a phenomenal Fashion show for the whole campus. They showcased global fashion trends, and showed everyone the diversity we have in our community through fashion!! Hopefully you will be here soon to celebrate Diversifest with us next year!! It is my pleasure to welcome you to our new blog for International Admission! My name is Joelle Atere-Roberts, and I am the International Fellow for the Admission Office! I'm a junior here at Agnes Scott, and I'm a biology major intending on doing the dual-degree engineering program.
